Throughout the keynote audience you could see a sea of red hats. The hats served as glowing support for the open source point of view.

Some folks, at least those who actually looked good in them, continued to wear the red hats throughout the day.

Craig Mundie (right) continued to discuss keynote topics throughout the morning during a follow-up press conference and even in the hallways with conference attendees.

But not all discussions were serious in nature. People still made time to show off new gizmos and talk pure tech.

In the expo hall the one-man ping pong table provided by Strike Fun and sponsored by Stem Systems and O'Reilly was a favorite diversion from the day's studies.

After a break in the expo hall, it was time to figure out what session to attend next.

The O'Reilly Author Signing Event started at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The crowd was particularly interested in the Perl authors at the event.

Perl authors from left to right: Tom Christiansen, Larry Wall, and Jon Orwant.

Eric Raymond was on hand to talk with visitors and of course, sign books.

Tim O'Reilly listened to feedback in between signings.
